Project:Photon - Part II

If you haven't already read Project:Photon - Part I, you should go do so now, as it will give you an introduction and overview into what I am doing here.

In Part II, I'm simply getting everything together, connecting it up, and making sure most things work. This article is essentially just photos, so if you can't see pictures I'm afraid it wont be too exciting. NOTE: This isn't actually the 'build' stage yet - that wont happen before January; I'm too busy at the moment.

So, the key parts have finally arrived, and without any more ado I give you, the components:

various computer components

And for those of you that aren't able to instantly identify PC parts on sight, here are some labels:

various computer components labelled

Here's a close up of the core component, the motherboard:

jetway J7F2 1.2 Eden Fanless Motherboard

And he's a picture of the picoPSU, with a pair of AA batteries to show the scale:

120W picoPSU

So, if we connect everything (except the disk drives) together, what does it look like? Like this:

J7F2 motherboard with components connected

Which is great, but does it actually work? Well I plugged in the PSU, and added a monitor and keyboard, and I get two pretty lights:

motherboard connected and turned on

And after briefly shorting the reset button connections, it gives a nice loud beep and produces the following:

POST screen

And, well, I'm afraid that's the end of this entry already. I poked about in the BIOS a little bit, but I haven't had a chance to do much more than that - and wont have a chance for the rest of this year. I've tucked the machine up snuggly in its little box and it's going to sleep through the season of Yule whilst I go home to visit my family.

And a belated thanks and happy already-underway year to you too. :)

the reason you are not going any further is

1. you need to disable floppy drive in bios settings
2.attach hard disk drives
3.attach external or ide dvd-rom drive
and last install windows from boot cd or dvd
